Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta participated in the welcoming ceremony for the repatriation of 4 orangutans to Indonesia at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport

On 23 December 2025, Ms. Mintira Pupatharapong, Minister-Counsellor, representing the Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia, attended the welcoming ceremony for the repatriation of 4 orangutans (Jay, Raiking, Noon and Bow) from Thailand to Indonesia at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Mr. Raja Juli Antoni, Minister of Forestry of Indonesia, and attended by representatives from relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

Minister-Counsellor Mintira congratulated the success of said mission, which resulted from the close cooperation between relevant authorities of Thailand and Indonesia, particularly the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, and the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia. The 4 orangutans will be transferred to Sumatran Rescue Alliance (SRA) – rehabilitation center for Sumatran endemic primate in North Sumatra before being reintroduced to its natural habitat in the future.

Since 2006, Thailand has cooperated and supported 7 repatriations of orangutans to Indonesia, amounting a total of 78 orangutans to date. This repatriation of these 4 orangutans from Thailand to their natural habitat in Indonesia marked another milestone in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Indonesia. It also reflects the strong commitment of both countries to fulfil their obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) towards a world free of wildlife crime.
