On 19 May 2025, Thailand and Indonesia announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership and agreed to intensify bilateral cooperation across all areas of common interest both at the bilateral and regional levels.
The announcement was made during the official visit to Thailand of His Excellency Mr. Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, at the invitation of Her Excellency Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. On this occasion, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida graciously granted the President of the Republic of Indonesia a Royal Audience at Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, Dusit Palace.
The Thai and Indonesian leaders co-chaired the first Leaders’ Consultation, a new bilateral mechanism to ensure regular consultations at the leader’s level. Both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in all areas, from tackling security threats and transnational crime, increasing bilateral trade and investment, and expand cooperation in food security, fisheries, halal products, energy security and green economy, education, healthcare and tourism, to strengthening regional cooperation through promoting ASEAN solidarity and centrality.
Both leaders also witnessed the signing ceremony of the MoU between the Ministry of Public Health of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia on Health Cooperation.
