The Royal Thai Embassy celebrating “Songkran Festival 2025” with nearly 600 people in attendance

On 19 April 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Thailand to ASEAN, Thai Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, Thai Women’s Association in Indonesia (TWA), Thai Friend Community (TFC), and Sanuk Mak, organized “Songkran of Unity, Celebrating Thai-Indonesian Friendship.”, vibrant annual celebration introducing the Thai New Year tradition to the Indonesian public while strengthening the bonds within the Thai community in Indonesia. This year’s event was especially meaningful, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Indonesia, and warmly welcoming over 570 participants.

At the event, participants experienced traditional Thai ceremonies, including the water-pouring ritual on the Buddha Statue, and took part in the รดน้ำดำหัว” (Rod Nam Dam Hua) ceremony — a traditional water-pouring blessing ritual — to receive New Year blessings from the Ambassador of Thailand, Thailand’s Permanent Representative to ASEAN, their spouses, and a respected senior representative of the Thai community in Indonesia. They also enjoyed a variety of Thai food, beverages, and merchandise from 14 stalls in the Thai Bazaar and took part in quizzes about Thailand and Indonesia, as well as a cultural workshop on traditional Thai-garland making. The highlight of the afternoon was the tradition of Songkran water splashing, a symbol of cleansing, renewal, and festive fun. The event concluded with a lively Thai karaoke session where participants showcased their singing talents.
