On 8 May 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, and the World Tipiṭaka Foundation, hosted the handover ceremony of The World Tipiṭaka Saj-jhā-ya Phonetic Recitation, The King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit Commemorative 2016 Editions: A Gift of Peace and Wisdom for All, in Celebration of the 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (28 July 2024) at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. Ambassador Prapan Disyatat and Most Venerable Phrathamwachirayangosol Haruethaitawon, Ecclesiastical Provincial Governor of Surin (Dhammayut) and Abbot of Wat Burapharam, represented the Thai side. H.E. Mr. Fadli Zon, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, as Guest of Honour, represented the Indonesian side at the ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by over 70 participants, including heads of Team Thailand offices and their spouses, senior monks from Vihāra Jakarta Dhammacakka Jaya, high-level representatives from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the World Tipiṭaka Foundation, as well as representatives from the Buddhist organisations in the Republic of Indonesia.
On this occasion, Ambassador Prapan delivered his opening remarks, emphasisng the significance of the ceremony in commemorating both the 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and the Republic of Indonesia. The collection was presented as “A Gift of Peace and Wisdom” from the people of Thailand to the people of Indonesia. Interested Indonesian scholars or Buddhists can study the collection at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia.
The World Tipiṭaka Saj-jhā-ya Phonetic Recitation, The King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit Commemorative 2016 Editions (a comprehensive 80-volume set comprising40 volumes for King Bhumibol’s Edition and 40 volumes for Queen Sirikit’s Edition) were published in 2016 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the reign of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, then Crown Prince, graciously chaired the publication and granted royal permission for its dissemination. The Tipitaka collection was developed to provide a comprehensive and reliable phonetic representation, ensuring the correct enunciation of the Pali texts during the Lord Buddha’s era for both academic study and practical use in Buddhist practice.
