On 25 February 2019, H.E. Mr. Songphol Sukchan, Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Thomas Lembong, Chairman of Badan Koordinasi Penanaman Modal (BKPM) and discussed ways to enhance investment cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia. The Ambassador stated that BKPM plays an important role in promoting investment and economic development in Indonesia, and that Indonesia has many potential opportunities for foreign investment.
The Ambassador also stated that there is a strong presence of Thai companies in Indonesia; currently 113 Thai companies are operating their businesses in Indonesia, with some companies doing businesses here for over 40 years. Several of these companies are looking to expand their businesses in Indonesia as well. Additionally, many new Thai investors are also interested in investing in Indonesia because of the vast potential business opportunities the country has to offer. To facilitate Thai businesses who look to invest in Indonesia, the Board of Investment (BOI) of Thailand recently opened up its office in Jakarta to provide assistance for them.
