On 23 June 2019, H.E. Mr. Songphol Sukchan, Ambassador of Thailand and Mrs. Piyachanid, spouse, presided over the grand opening of the Thai “Chao Phraya” restaurant in Surabaya at the invitation of Mrs. Onny Almasyhur, the restaurant’s owner and Royal Thai Honorary Consul in Surabaya.
Chao Phraya is one of the very first few Thai restaurants in Surabaya. The Ambassador praised Mrs. Onny who has done the fullest of her ability promoting Thailand in Surabaya by opening a Thai restaurant. He expressed hope that the restaurant would help further promote Thai food among Surabayans and East Javanese as well as cultural exchanges, tourism and people-to-people contact between Thailand and Surabaya/East Java.
There were over 100 people attending the event, including consuls general, honorary consuls, Indonesian and Thai businesspeople and guests from Surabaya and East Java. THAI Airways also provided a round trip ticket between Jakarta and Bangkok for the lucky draw at the grand opening.
