On 26 June 2019, H.E. Mr. Songphol Sukchan, Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia and delegation had a meeting with executives and representatives of Terminal Pertikemas Surabaya (TPS). TPS is the biggest container terminal in Surabaya’s Tanjung Perak port, the second largest port in Indonesia (just after Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta).

Indonesian SOE Pelindo III holds 99.5% of TPS’ shares. TPS’ business – covering both domestic and international services – has progressed well in recent years and tends to grow further this year. Imports and exports between Thailand and Indonesia account for 1.4% of all the containers handled by TPS, totaling 20,000 containers per year (78% of which are exports from Indonesia to Thailand). TPS is also the main destination for Thai agricultural products to Indonesia.

H.E. the Ambassador also explained Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project which includes development of infrastructure linking Bangkok and EEC by rails, roads, air and ports. He hoped that ports development in this project can be benefitted and linked with Indonesian ports.

On this occasion, H.E. the Ambassador and delegation also visited TPS’ operation control tower and cargo areas.
