On 16 August 2019 at 12.00 hrs., Mrs. Piyachanid Suthinont Sukchan, spouse of Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia hosted “Thai Taste @Thai House” luncheon at the Ambassador’s Residence to present Thai culinary identity and promote Thainess in Indonesia through Thai cuisine such as Chor Muang, Tomyum Kung, Pad Thai in Sarong, Mussaman Nuea, Kai Hor Baitoey, Kanom Ko Kati and mango sticky rice. Publications on Thai cuisines are displayed at the event, and the goodie bags of Thai cuisine items sponsored by the Thai Trade Center in Jakarta and the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Jakarta office were also distributed to the participants.
The “Thai Taste @Thai House” was attended by 20 Indonesian ladies and spouses of Heads of Diplomatic Missions such as Ibu Yasmin Fachir, spouse of Vice Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Datin Chan Chin Ming, spouse of Secretary-General of ASEAN, Ibu Mita Mochtan, spouse of Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, Ibu Sari Percaya, spouse of Directorate General for Asia-Pacific and African Affairs, Ibu Elmyra Bambang, President of Women International Club Jakarta (WIC) and Ibu Ellen Hidayat, CEO of Emporium Pluit Mall, Jakarta as well as spouses of Ambassadors of Japan, ROK, Viet Nam, Philippines, Myanmar, New Zealand, Norway and Ireland to Indonesia and to ASEAN.
Restaurants and food delivery business in Indonesia grows rapidly. Currently there are around 120 Thai restaurants and beverage shops/kiosks in Jakarta including the newly-opened “Aroi Thai” restaurant in Jakarta and “Chao Phraya” restaurant in Surabaya launched in 2019. Previously, on 31 July 2019, H.E. Mr. Songphol Sukchan, Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia, presided over the Thai Select award ceremony where 12 Thai restaurants in Jakarta and Bali received the Thai Select brand certification for 2019. The event was attended by around 70 Thai restaurant entrepreneurs and Thai food importers in Indonesia.
