On 1 March 2019, H.E. Mr. Songphol Sukchan, Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia and Mrs. Piyachanid Suthinont Sukchan, spouse had an audience with H.M. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, Governor of Yogyakarta.
Both sides reiterated the long-standing close ties between the royal families of Thailand and Yogyakarta since H.M. King Rama V visited Yogyakarta in 1896, and reffirmed readiness to further enhance the relations and cooperation between Thailand and Yogyakarta in several areas. These include agricultural and alternative development under Thailand’s royal initiatives, culture and exchanges of textiles, tourism and the promotion of air connectivity, education of Thai Muslim students in Yogyakarta, collaboration between universities of Thailand and Yogyakarta, digital economy and e-commerce as well as sister city cooperation between Chiang Mai and Yogyakarta.
