On 11–12 March 2026, H.E. Mrs. Hathaichanok Riddhagni Frumau, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta, together with her delegation, paid an official visit to Medan, North Sumatra Province. During the visit, Mrs. Hathaichanok had a meeting with Mr. Martono Anggusti, Thai Honorary Consul in Medan, to discuss the well-being of the Thai community in Medan as well as the potential and opportunities for strengthening cooperation between Thailand and North Sumatra Province.
Mrs. Hathaichanok and the delegation also paid a courtesy call on Mr. Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution, Governor of North Sumatra. Both sides exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation between Thailand and North Sumatra, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, education, and people-to-people exchanges. On this occasion, the Governor expressed interest in expanding educational cooperation with Thailand, particularly in the film industry, and conveyed his intention to send personnel to participate in training programs in fields where Thailand has expertise.
During the visit, the delegation met with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rudianto, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), as well as Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), both leading universities in North Sumatra Province. The discussions focused on exploring potential areas for enhancing educational cooperation between these institutions and universities in Thailand.
On this occasion, the Minister expressed appreciation to both universities for their interest in expanding academic collaboration with Thailand, and in particular commended UMSU for its continued support and care for Thai students, both in academic development and overall well-being.
The delegation also had the opportunity to meet with Thai students at UMSU and exchange views on their academic experiences and living conditions in Indonesia.
